Kashgar is the easiest city in China to keep your prayers — Id Kah Mosque holds the five daily prayers, and mosques and prayer space are woven through the city. One local detail worth knowing: Xinjiang runs on Beijing clock time while the sun here is about two hours behind it, so prayer times sit late against your watch — Maghrib can fall near 10 pm in summer. Kashgar weather runs on desert rules — dry nearly all year, hot in high summer, sharply cold in winter — and the Pamir routes add an alpine layer on top: the city can be warm while Karakul Lake needs a down jacket. Autumn is the headline window; here's the honest calendar.

How do I get to Kashgar from Malaysia or Singapore?
There are no direct international flights to Kashgar Laining International Airport (KHG). The usual route from Kuala Lumpur or Singapore is a flight to Ürümqi — direct services operate on some schedules — or a connection through a mainland hub such as Guangzhou, Chengdu or Xi'an, followed by a roughly two-hour domestic flight to Kashgar. We book the domestic legs and time the connection so you land rested, not rushed.
Do I need a permit for the Karakoram Highway or Tashkurgan?
For Tashkurgan and the far Pamir section, yes — foreign travelers need a border-area permit, arranged in Kashgar before the trip, and checkpoints along the highway check documents. Requirements vary by checkpoint and change over time, so we confirm the current rules when we plan your dates and prepare all the paperwork in advance. On our routes, the permit process happens before you arrive — you just carry your passport.
Will altitude be a problem in Kashgar?
Not in the city — Kashgar sits at about 1,300 m, where nobody needs adjustment time. The Pamir routes are a different matter: Karakul Lake lies at roughly 3,600 m and Tashkurgan at about 3,100 m, high enough for some travelers to feel it. We schedule the city days first, keep the plateau day unhurried with slow walking at the lake, and build in the flexibility to turn around early if anyone in the group is struggling.
How many days do I need in Kashgar?
4 to 6 days. Two days cover the city properly — the Old City, Id Kah Mosque, Abakh Hoja Tomb and the Grand Bazaar. One full day goes to the Karakoram Highway and Karakul Lake, and an overnight in Tashkurgan adds Stone City and the Pamir Plateau without the punishing same-day return.
